GM GTC Flood Restoration Phase 1 + 2

The following day Ideal Contracting was single-sourced to assist GM in the recovery of the WTC campus. The campus Design Center, Aero Lab, Engineering West-North-South and Central, Manufacturing Building A, CCO, Research Building, Cadillac Building, Vehicle Engineering Center, and South Campus buildings had all suffered millions of dollars in damage. Ideal’s scope of work for the first phase included a multitude of tasks, from saving precious historical artifacts to pumping out a small lake of floodwater in one of the basements. Union Trades were called in from all over the area to work at a moment’s notice. Ideal Contracting supplied 150 trades persons, supported by 450 subcontractors and countless other individuals behind the scenes. Everyone worked around the clock for weeks to return the facilities back to their original condition and bring critical mechanical and electrical systems back online.

Phase II of the flood restoration project was dedicated to modernizing the aging facilities and was also single-sourced to Ideal Contracting. Phase II consisted of the renovation of six different buildings. The design concepts implemented in this project became the basis of design for future GM office transformation projects. The renovation was completed on schedule in December 2015.
