Since the founding of Ideal Contracting in 1998, a stern commitment was made. It wasn’t to build the biggest buildings or to make the most money. Instead, it was a commitment to people. We’ve always focused on building relationships with clients, partners, and our staff, and that commitment has led us to 25 successful years of building together.

1998

Ideal Contracting is founded

Ideal Contracting is founded and forms a 51% / 49% partnership with Barton Malow, starting with only eight employees.

1999

Beginning a Long Standing Relationship with General Motors

Work commences on the GM Romulus Bulk Fluids Tank Farm, valued at $2.6 million.

2002

Earning Recognition From General Motors

Ideal Contracting receives the first of thirteen GM Supplier of the Year Awards.

2002

Expediting Project Delivery at General Motors

GM's Project Delivery Management Program is awarded to Ideal Contracting, a contract we still hold today.

2003

Growing Our Services

Ideal Contracting becomes a self-performing general contractor.

2004

Earning Experience in Precast Erection

Ideal Contracting completes the first precast concrete project for Wayne State University's Residence Hall.

2005

Growing Our Expertise in Interior Renovation

Ideal Contracting completes the first major interior renovation for GM at the Ypsilanti Transmission Operations Facility in Willow Run.

2006

Accommodating Ideal's Growing Operations

Ideal Contracting expands it's yard operations into Building C of the main campus headquarters.

2007

First Major Tennessee Project

Work commences on Ideal Contracting's first out-of-state project for a Logistics Operation Center located at GM Spring Hill.

2008

Building More Expertise In Steel Erection

Ideal erects a unique 25,000 SF structure designed to enclose DTE Energy Monroe's Urea Ammonia production process equipment.

2010

Growing Our Steel Portfolio

The first stamping plant project, GM Flint Stamping Consolidation, is completed at a cost of $15.8 million.

2011

Achieving a Major Milestone in the GM PDPM Program

Our Special Projects Group hits $500 million in sales through the General Motors Project Delivery Program Management (PDPM) program. 

2012

Building Trusted Solutions in the Industrial Sector

Ideal completes the Severstal PLTCM Pickle Line and Hot Dip Galvanizing projects, erecting approximately 6,000 tons of steel.

2012

Supporting Energy Production in Michigan

Work begins on the Consumer's Energy D.E. Karns Units 1&2 Utility Trestle and Mechanical Package, erecting approximately 4,000 tons of steel.

2013

AISC-certified Steel Erector

Ideal Contracting becomes an AISC-certified steel erector.

2014

General Motors GTC Campus Flood Restoration

Ideal Contracting is single-sourced by GM to assist in the recovery of water damage to the Global Tech Center campus. The two phase project is valued at $90 million.

2015

Size and Quantity of Steel Projects Continue to Grow

Construction begins on the GM Flint Body Shop and General Assembly addition project, erecting over 9,000 tons of structural steel.

2016

Building Detroit

Ideal is awarded multiple packages for the new Little Caesars Arena project, located in the District Detroit neighborhood. Projects are valued at a total of $45 million.

2017

Advancing Business Education at Wayne State University

Ideal Contracting completes the erection of 1,200 tons of structural steel for Wayne State University's Mike Ilitch School of Business.

2018

A Brand New Beginning

Ideal Contracting buys out Barton Malow's interest in Ideal Contracting, fulfilling the vision of its founding members.

2019

Revitalizing Part of Detroit's History

The renovation of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, located on Belle Isle, is completed and reopened to the public.

2020

Earning Recognition During Unprecedented Times

Frank Venegas, Founder and Chairman of the Ideal Group, is named the National Minority Supplier Development Council's (NMSDC) 2020 MBE of the Year.

2021

Building Expertise In Precast Construction

Ideal Contracting becomes a certified precast erector by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI).

2022

Work Commences On Largest Steel Project To Date

Ideal Contracting is awarded with the structural steel package for the Ford BOSK Battery Plant in Stanton, Tennessee. The battery plant is 4.1 million SF and consists of approximately 48,000 tons of steel.

2023

25 Years of Building Together

Ideal Contracting celebrates its 25th year in business.
