Project Overview

The GM Detroit Hamtramck Logistical Operations Center project utilized design-build services for four building additions, totaling 425,000-square-feet, to the active Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant.

The scope included 20,000 cubic yards of concrete, 100 tons of re-steel, 2,600 tons of structural steel, (8) air rotation units, (30) dock doors and associated loading dock equipment, (35) unit heaters, and (6) adjustable wheel risers. Ideal Contracting was responsible for the design and commissioning of these components. One of the project’s greatest challenges was battling the worst winter weather the area had seen in 100 years. To store new equipment being installed in the existing plant, the customer required the slab on grade (SOG) and building to be weather-tight. Overall, Ideal met the customer’s request for storage inside the new buildings and maintained the project schedule.
