Project Overview

Ideal Contracting, under a subcontract to the prime contractor, fabricated and erected a 300-foot-long pedestrian bridge that spans across Woodward Avenue at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. The bridge provides safe and easier access for hospital employees parked in the structure across the street.

Ideal Contracting’s ironworkers spent one month assembling the bridge into two separate halves a ½ mile away from the final location. Following the assembly of the bridge, the installation of roofing, mechanical piping, and glazing connections occurred on the job site. Woodward Avenue was completely closed in both directions early on a Saturday morning for the bridge to be transported and set in place over the course of ten hours. Upon the successful completion of the project, Ideal Contracting received commendable reviews from the prime contractor, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, and MDOT.
