Together Everyone Achieves More

Ideal Contracting has held General Motors’ Project Delivery Program Management (PDPM) contract for 17 years in southeast Michigan. Since the start of the program, close to 1 billion dollars of work has been put into place in over 20 facilities. From the time a project request is sent to the site manager and handed to the project manager, it sets into motion a collaboration of members working together to bring the client’s vision to life. A project, whether small or large, stretches across all team members from administration, safety, superintendents, foreman, yard staff to the last tradesperson on the project.

The PDPM team in Warren, Michigan services the entire 710-acre campus at GM’s Global Tech Center. This includes 55 buildings that house over 29,000 employees. The site offers an advanced technology business atmosphere emphasizing flexibility, efficiency, innovation, quality, safety, and security. The campus is comprised of 11 miles (18 km) of roads, 1.1 miles (1.8 km) of tunnels, 2 water towers, as well as 2 lakes which serve as emergency fire reservoirs in the event of a catastrophic fire.

This year, some of the key projects completed at GTC were the Glycol Emergency Leak, Executive Garage Renovations, Research Courtyard Renovations, and HVAC upgrades. The success of the GTC PDPM team could not be possible without the hard work and contribution of every member.

What does it take to build a high-functioning, collaborative team? Although personality, attitude, and diversity are important, it’s a shared mindset that allows a team to thrive. Our Service Group/PDPM team operating out of Warren at the GM Global Tech Center (GTC) shares a common goal and mindset – a focus on safety, delivering a quality product, and exceptional service to our client.

Scott MacIntyre, Site Manager, has led a team of 25 managers, 100 plus trade personnel, and up to 200 subcontractor employees for over ten years. On average, each team member has worked for Ideal Contracting for nine years, with the majority of that time being at the Global Tech Center. Scott understands that giving individual team members autonomy to complete their work and sharing a common purpose allows them to undertake the most challenging of tasks. “Team collaboration allows brainstorming. As a result, more ideas are developed, and productivity improves. Cohesiveness is determined by which team members want to remain in the team and are committed to shared goals,” says MacIntyre. Scott, along with the rest of the team, has fostered an environment that empowers each other to share new ideas. They live by the quote – “Somebody who thinks a little differently can help to see problems as opportunities and inspire creative energy within a group.” (Sir Richard Branson)

“Our Service Group teams have outstanding leadership and first-in-class trades personnel across all regions. The Warren Region, under Scott MacIntyre, is certainly no exception, setting goals for the highest levels of achievement in safety, quality, and value. It starts with Scott.

He started in the field as a carpenter and quickly moved to Foreman, Superintendent, and Sr. Superintendent, overseeing hundreds of tradesmen and women daily. Scott then moved into Project Management and ultimately Sr. Manager with responsibilities for overall operations for our largest program. Scott came from the field and understands complex tasks. Not only from his master carpentry skills but also electrical, mechanical, and virtually all disciplines associated with construction.

Very well-rounded, Scott’s talents are unique and not often found in the industry. Scott’s passion, focus on safety, and vast knowledge of the field are truly unsurpassed. He is trusted, seeks solutions beyond expectations, and is highly respected amongst all of our industry colleagues. It is our honor and pleasure to have him on our team. One thing is always certain, Scott will not let us fail,” – Jon Hautau, Vice President for Service Agreements.
