Week #8 – Asset Sustainment Project – Miranda Zamora

It was a busy week as usual. This project is constantly busy with its new device and pipe installments of the new boilers. This week the team and I were making sure that punchlist items were completed, G-Comply tags turn green, and proper placards were placed in the Chiller Plant.

Pipe installments are becoming more interesting to me. I’m curious to find out how they run and how they affect the Steam Plant. The pipes are a huge asset (no pun intended) to the Steam Plant. Since I am majoring in mechanical engineering it can be a valuable lesson in getting to know more about piping systems.
Besides being interested in learning about piping systems, I was also trained in confined space! The more I learned about being in a confined space the more I realized how dangerous and hazardous it is to be in one. Heat Stress, engulfment, electrical hazards, chemical exposures, asphyxiation, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, etc. are all different ways that can harm a life. I also learned that oxygen deficiency below 21% is not safe to go in. I’m glad that Ideal has these training courses to keep everyone safe and have everyone go back home safe to their families.
