This week was a little different from previous weeks. I was able to visit a different job site at Flint. It was a different type of engineering and it was nice and refreshing to see something new. It’s also nice to see different jobs Ideal Contracting does for different companies and to able to leave their mark.  It was also very cool to see where the trucks were being assembled! I’ve always wanted to see a place where trucks were being made!
This week was also the quarterly staff meeting and the Asset Sustainment Project was able to present what it has been up to! There has definitely been so much work and effort on site to be able to get the boilers and chillers to get their piping, gauges, valves, etc installed. During the presentation, Joe showed a graph of a colored floor plan, which is actually some of my work I do here on site. I’ve been going out in the field every morning at 7 a.m to see what new piping installations have been done. Every time there’s a new piping installation I update the floor plan which helps communicate to others to visually see what is installed so far in the project.
It’s been a busy week so far and it ended with a volunteer day with Magna and Ideal Contracting in Detroit. It was a great chance to help clean up my hometown and make Southwest Detroit a nicer place to live in. I definitely think this is making a positive impact for inner city kids and for them to have a chance to talk to college students and learn about the different companies and careers they could work in on day. As an inner city kid myself, I was lucky enough to have older siblings to go to college and follow in their footsteps, but I know that’s not the case for all of us. I think it is a great idea to merge inner city kids and college students together to help kids be guided in the right direction. It can be easy to get lost along the way living in a rough neighborhood, but having positive impacts such as volunteer days can help kids open their mind to see what else is out there. I hope that the kids I met all reach their full potential and make good choices!
