On Tuesday, Andrew, Dylan and I drove down to Detroit for our scheduled interview with Nick Luxon. In my personal opinion, this was the most valuable part of my internship experience here at Ideal Contracting. In a casual setting, we got to learn what it took for Nick to get to where he is today. It was truly inspiring listening to the stories he had to tell and the words of advice he had for young professionals entering the construction industry. The hard work and determination Nick put in day after day to reach a high level position of management at such a young age opened my eyes as to what it’s going to take to eventually get there one day. I encourage everyone to talk to Nick, ask him questions and get to know him a little bit as he’s very knowledgeable and super easy to talk to.
On Wednesday, the interns drove to Flint for a site visit lead by Chelsey and Jack. This was a super cool experience as it was unlike any other visit we went on this summer. While we were there, we got to stick weld two plates of steel together as well as learn how to use the torch to cut steel. Another cool experience, thanks to Chelsey for setting it all up.
On Friday, it was back to Detroit for the volunteer day where Ideal Contracting partnered with MAGNA to clean up the Cadillac Urban Gardens next to Building B. I had a good half day of volunteering before I left to go to the Pontiac golf outing where all the Ideal-Pontiac employees had an enjoyable round of golf at Shepard’s Hollow in Clarkston.
