As things are winding down with the 2018 Summer internship here at Ideal, we are starting to focus on our final presentation. Lindsay and I have been working closely to work out the kinks in our presentation. After two trial presentations, I think we have it down now 🙂 I also got to sit down with Rich Brown this past week and ask him a few questions the skills needed to succeed in this industry and how to balance work and family. Rich is a father of three beautiful kids. He said that without a shared schedule and the wonderful partner his wife is, it would be much harder to balance work and family. In our industry, things can change in a matter of seconds. We can have dinner planned with family for 2 weeks prior and one incident on a job site can flush those plans right down the drain. Rich discussed in our meeting how communication is about 75% of our job, and with all this technology out there, it can be easy to loose site of how much good a face to face conversation can do.
This internship has been a great experience to learn from many mentors. As a female in this industry, we sometimes have to work harder, to prove ourselves, than the men. Ideal Contracting has been a great company to work for and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
