Week 1 & 2 – GTC & Ren Cen – Courtney Iler

Hello Everyone!
I am excited to be joining the Build U program this summer. I started full time with Ideal in January 2017, since then I have learned so much. I started in the accounting department, cutting subcontractor checks and pre-auditing them. From there I moved onto safety. I was first at the Toyota Powertrain Expansion job, which was very exciting to see and learn the safety side of Ideal. Between all the reports and the mass amount of workers on site, there was never a dull moment. While all these different jobs were an amazing experience, my true goal is to be a Project Manager. I am currently at Eastern Michigan with one year left in Construction Management program.
I have been jumping between a couple projects these past few weeks. Part of the week I am at the GTC (Global Tech Center) in Warren, working with the hard dollar team and the other part of the week I am at the Main Office learning some of the processes that come along with bidding a job.
Tuesday I visited the Ren Cen steel project. They are are infilling the 72nd floor….. WOAH is that HIGH, but the view from up there is AMAZING! I met with Tony Poma, IW superintendent and shadowed him for a day. Tony is very knowledgeable when it comes to steel, I couldn’t ask enough questions!
