Ideal Contracting proudly served as a structural steel trade partner for The Gallery at RH Birmingham project in downtown Birmingham, Michigan. Working as a subcontractor to Sachse Construction, Ideal Contracting erected approximately 540 tons of steel for this 5-story, 67,000-square-foot structure. With the project being located on a tight footprint in Birmingham’s downtown area, Ideal Contracting worked meticulously with project partners to deliver a well-coordinated and efficient project that meets the expectations of the project owners.
This project was unique in the fact that is was located in a downtown setting, making it an very small site that required careful delivery planning and erection of the steel members. Additionally, the basement and foundations on this project were preexisting from a different building. This prompted our team to work with as-built existing conditions, as well as make a few adaptations to make the new steel fit with the existing foundations. This basement area will serve as a new, below-grade parking area for the building.
Another important piece to this project was the fabrication and erection of several steel staircases for the different levels of the structure. Ideal Steel furnished and delivered the staircases to the site where the Ideal Contracting team carefully hoisted and secured them in place. The erection of the stairs was a logistically challenging task as the crane had to lift the stairs off of the truck and into different designated areas around the building, making the coordination and communication of this sequence crucial.
