Project Overview

Working as a subcontractor to Barton Malow, Ideal Contracting performed the structural steel erection for a section of a new innovative facility located in Dearborn, Michigan. In total, Ideal erected over 6,800 tons of steel for a 505,000 SF section of the new building.

This was a unique experience as our ironworkers worked alongside the general contractor’s ironworkers, who were completing their own sections of the building. Ideal’s team was complimented several times for the quality of our workmanship during the project. Utilizing over 90,000 man-hours, Ideal Contracting completed its portion of the steel erection on time.

There were some challenges throughout the project, one being that the building was not square by design. There were several different skews and angles requiring large pieces of iron and precision placement. Also, working space was limited, forcing the cranes to back up to the edges of the site. However, the schedule allowed us to demobilize one crane earlier than expected, freeing up space for the completion of the steel erection.
