Project Overview

Ideal Contracting partnered with Barton Malow to deliver structural steel erection for a key section of Ford Motor Company’s cutting-edge headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. Our scope included erecting more than 6,800 tons of steel across 505,000 square feet of the facility—an effort requiring over 90,000 man-hours.

This project stood out for its collaborative nature: Ideal’s ironworkers worked side-by-side with Barton Malow’s own crews, seamlessly coordinating efforts to maintain schedule and quality. Our team earned repeated commendations for precision and workmanship throughout the project.

The design introduced unique challenges. The structure was intentionally non-square, incorporating multiple skews and angles that demanded meticulous planning and exact placement of massive steel members. Limited site space added complexity, forcing cranes to operate at the site’s edge. Through strategic sequencing, we demobilized one crane ahead of schedule, creating critical space and accelerating progress.

Despite these challenges, Ideal Contracting delivered its portion of the steel erection on time, reinforcing our reputation for safety, quality, and problem-solving on high-profile projects.
