Project Overview

Ideal Contracting served as the general contractor on a unique 25,000-square-foot structure designed to enclose DTE Energy’s Urea Ammonia (U2A) equipment at their Monroe Power Plant. This project was challenging for both DTE and Ideal Contracting as they needed to construct a new building around the operating U2A production equipment.

The building is a clear-span design to eliminate interior columns and obstructions. The structure consists of an engineered truss system with a 45-foot clear height and several ten-foot-high truss members spanning up to 160 feet. Each of these steel structural members was erected from the outside around the gas production equipment. It was of critical importance that Ideal Contracting utilized the correct piece of equipment to enable the rigging of the structural members to safely lift and set the pieces from the outside perimeter over the existing plant. This project was completed with no incidents and with great customer satisfaction.
