Project Overview:
Hot Dip Coating Line (HDCL) & Hot Strip Mill Addition
Ideal Contracting self-performed the structural and miscellaneous steel erection for the new Hot Dip Coating Line for Severstal, now AK Steel. The scope of work for this project involved the installation of building shell structures including the warehouse, overhead crane runway system and a 250’ tall APC tower. The interior work included a new furnace structure, APC tower, and entry and exit accumulator towers. The Coating Line will be used for annealing and galvanizing coating of coiled sheet steel at Severstal’s Dearborn location.
Ideal also worked on the Hot Strip Mill Addition project, a 10,000-square-foot addition onto the existing Hot Strip Mill. The scope of work included the extension of an existing overhead crane runway, interior process equipment support steel, pit steel, miscellaneous stairs, rails, and catwalks. A total of 57,000 man-hours, a peak crew of 80 ironworkers and 12 operators worked on steel erection with no lost-time incidents.
Pickle Line Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM)
Ideal Contracting was responsible for the installation of over 1,000 tons of structural and miscellaneous steel for a new Pickle Line Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM) in the Severstal North America Steel Mill. This involved the installation of miscellaneous access platforms, guardrail and grating throughout the new process line that spans nearly 5 miles. Ideal also erected 300,000 square-feet of new buildings for coil storage handling, roll maintenance, and utility storage. The project was completed on time and with great customer satisfaction.
