Over this past weekend, volunteers and partners dedicated their time and energy to beautify our very own Cadillac Urban Garden through a program called Motor City Makeover. This annual initiative occurs in May and strives to connect local businesses and residents (based on city district) in cleaning and restoring certain areas across Detroit. Thousands of flowers were distributed to Ideal Contracting and volunteers spent hours planting them in our flower beds. Check out our complete Facebook gallery and be sure to “like” our Cadillac Urban Gardens page!
Duties included fruit and vegetable planting, Scarcyny Park clean up and tree pruning, planting in the Venegas Way Orchard, Merritt Street trash clean up, framing of Holy Redeemer Elementary School raised planter beds, and the refurbishment of the Detroit Cristo Rey High School garden. There were a total of nine groups represented for this event, including two project leads and seven participants. The project leads were the Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision (SDEV) and Ideal Group. Participants included Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Holy Redeemer Elementary School, the Ben Devine Eagle Scout team, the office of Councilwoman Raquel Castenada Lopez, City of Detroit District 6 office, the Brandon/Scotten Neighborhood Group, and local Detroit residents.
