In this edition of Pillars of Ideal, we highlight Spencer Young, Senior Project Manager, and the unique path he’s taken throughout his construction career.

From building homes on high school mission trips to Mexico to managing the steel erection of a 55,000-ton EV battery plant, Spencer’s journey has been guided by his deep-rooted faith and commitment to growth. His leadership style is grounded, thoughtful, and collaborative, always focused on problem-solving and empowering his team with constructive support.

Spencer Young

Director, Steel Group

12 Years with Ideal Contracting

Spencer Young was named Director of Ideal Contracting’s Steel Group in January 2026. In this role, he provides oversight and support to the group’s project managers and engineers, ensuring team members have the tools and resources they need to execute successful projects. A Construction Management graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Spencer is an AWS‑certified welding inspector and a NASCLA license holder with reciprocity in 16 states. He also maintains construction licenses in Florida, Nevada, Tennessee, and Virginia, and has been instrumental in Ideal Contracting’s geographic expansion by assisting in the attainment of key licenses that support entry into new markets. In addition to bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan, he holds an associate degree in Residential Construction & Design from Washtenaw Community College. Spencer is a proud member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, MI.
