Sun Protection – Proper PPE should be worn to protect skin from direct sunlight for employees working outside. Hardhats, long sleeves, sunblock, and approved safety sunglasses should be worn to protect workers from too much sun exposure.

Stay Hydrated – Drink water as much as you can. It is important to stay hydrated in order to avoid fatigue and heat stroke. Avoid sugar filled beverages as they take more time to absorb than water. A good rule of thumb is “if you are not urinating, then you are not drinking enough”. Always have cold water available and accessible.

Breaks/Rest – Have planned mandatory break periods to ensure hydration and rest for all employees. Increase break periods when heavy work is done and when high heat/humidity is present. Plan rest areas to be well shaded or air conditioned for employees.
