The CDC estimates that every year 9% of the entire U.S. population is hospitalized for confirmed flu cases. As we approach early fall and the CDC’s recommended time for vaccination, let’s talk about the FLU!
What can you do?
- Get Vaccinated early!
- It can take 2 weeks for the flu vaccine to become active in your system.
- Avoid contact with sick people, if possible!
- The CDC recommends staying home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone, except to get medical care or for other necessities.
- Cover your nose & mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing – then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands!
- If a tissue isn’t available use your sleeve at the arm/elbow area.
- Wash your hands often with soap & water. If they aren’t available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, & mouth – germs spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
If you’re sick with the flu – early medical attention with prescription antivirals can lead to milder and shorter illness with fewer complications. If prescribed antivirals, take the prescribed dosage and complete the prescription!
