Because of some setbacks in the schedule, work has not yet begun on the Toyota project, so I have been working in estimating with Michael this week. We both learned how to use On-Screen Takeoff, which is a program that is used to estimate material costs and quantities for a job. It’s actually pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. So far, I have used Takeoff to estimate quantities for structural steel, insulation, paving, storm drainage, and landscaping, among other things.
Although my first day of work was two weeks ago, we had our formal intern orientation on Wednesday this week, followed by bowling and networking at Punch Bowl Social in Detroit, which was a great time. I got acquainted with the other interns and their mentors, and I can already tell that this is going to be a fun and exciting summer!
